clay and leather artifact bracelet 3506

Burned clay and soft sueded leather wrapped around the core of this modern artifact recall the amulets that protected people from the evil spirits of the underworld. This re-creation is an imaginary interpretation of ancient form made with modern materials.
Inside the suede bag is a secret string of sinew and wood that holds the clay stumps in an erect position. The stretched penetrations suggest an emerging growing presence as each antler like form emerges from within.

A simple toggle and loop closure secures the open end. Made with all-new materials.
This piece is part of a developing collection of all handmade modern artifacts exploring the contemporary interpretation of imagined natural objects brought into existence from memory.

handmade clay bracelet 3504

New materials and ancient inspiration combine in this modern relic clay bracelet. Pyramidal spikes made out of textured clay are placed on an adjustable nylon cord with spacers to call forth the sprites of the ancients to protect the modern warrior in the daily battle.

A little bit like teeth or pieces of antler the clay has been mixed in a custom color then baked to harden and fuse. This is a modern relic discovered through a process of creation, dug up from the unconscious.
The closure is a simple button and loop. The cord can slide through the small orange glass bead to provide continuous adjustment from 7 1/2" to 8" (or larger) circumference.

This design is part of the Handmade Artifacts project which re-creates ancient forms in modern materials.

salmon slip knot rope bracelets 3503

Soft braided hand dyed cotton cord in salmon is the latest color available in the popular slip knot rope bracelet. This design expands by loosening the loops to fit on over a larger hand then easily adjusts to a smaller wrist. The loop and ball knot hold the loose ends together.

The adjustment is explained here.
The material is a salmon color which is a diluted solution of marsala red. The cord takes this color in a muted almost pastel tone. The dye process is explained here. The whipping is a heavy duty dark brown waxed thread.

Multiple sizes are easily produced. Find examples in the slip knot+wrap section of the Etsy shop.

salmon and ecru intermediate turks head knot rope bracelet 3502

This wider bracelet is an intermediate weave with 7 parts, 10 bights and a relaxed 8" finished circumference. The cord is a mix of hand dyed and natural ecru braided cotton. The weave design is one of series of turks head knot patterns that you can find in the Ashley Book of Knots.
The center strand is a salmon color which is a diluted solution of marsala red. The cord takes this color in a muted almost pastel tone so it blends comfortably with the natural white. The dye process is explained here.
