two oval stained bangles 4056

The third group in the stained PVC experiment is this pair of square chunky bangles, one very thin the other more substantial. Together they make a pair.

The wider bracelet is made from CPVC which means it has a low density core with two surfaces. The core is more porous and you can see it absorbs the dye creating a more saturated color.

The thinner bracelet is solid PVC so the dye penetration is generally less resulting in a lighter color.
Shape is an oval 2 1/4 (57 mm) x 2 5/8 (67 mm)

petroglyph bangles 3737

Part of the ongoing exploration of primitive handmade forms these petroglyph bangles are shaped inspired by the simple bold expressions found in rock pictures. The material is a thoroughly modern PVC plastic that has been heat formed and carved to create these irregular shapes.
The non flat shape of the plastic combined with free form design suggests an organic origin, here a group of the bangles is stacked on a bracelet stand.
An image drawn from the rock pictures found in the Petroglyph Provincial Park north of Peterborough, Ontario.

In the town of Peterborough is the place where you will find a rare piece of early 20th century engineering the Lift Lock.

anti clastic bangle 3604

An elemental simple form that has been hand carved to create a reverse (anti clastic) curve in the center leaving the edges thicker. The rounded and slightly distressed surface texture suggests years of use but this is a new object. Surface is matte and will acquire color and patina with use.

Lightweight CPVC has a hard white surface shell and a softer cream colored core exposed during he making.
