petroglyph bangles 3737

Part of the ongoing exploration of primitive handmade forms these petroglyph bangles are shaped inspired by the simple bold expressions found in rock pictures. The material is a thoroughly modern PVC plastic that has been heat formed and carved to create these irregular shapes.
The non flat shape of the plastic combined with free form design suggests an organic origin, here a group of the bangles is stacked on a bracelet stand.
An image drawn from the rock pictures found in the Petroglyph Provincial Park north of Peterborough, Ontario.

In the town of Peterborough is the place where you will find a rare piece of early 20th century engineering the Lift Lock.

bolt bracelet 3691

The second in the conceptual series made with up cycled carpet pad this variation is about the contrast between the lightweight rough textured pad and the massive phallic bolt used to secure the ends of the strip.

The pad strip is a tapered shape rolled around a mold then punctured and bolted together. The shape is similar to the iron necklaces worn by women in the Hamar cultural group with some obvious differences in materials.
In deference to the comfort of the wearer the interior side has the domed end of the carriage bolt. The wider end of the taper is on the interior with the narrow end secured beneath the washer and nut. More gruesome variations are of course possible but not recommended.
