1 button red orange fiber cuff friendship bracelet with polymer clay button 3065

This colorful cotton one button cuff bracelet is made from hand dyed cord inspired by the color of sugar maple trees in autumn. The brilliant reds and oranges light up the darkening sky. Unlike the falling leaves this color can stay with you and brighten up the winter months.

Read more about the construction technique for these bracelets here.

Shown here with the other two bracelets in this small collection this is one of three experimental designs made using custom handmade poly clay buttons.

Read about the green beaded bracelet here.

Read about the red-black bracelet here
The polymer clay buttons have holes sized for the heavier cords enabling a simple stylish toggle closure detail.

dinosaur spiked bracelet 2793

This sculpy project involves creating beads that resemble the protruding plates of a stegosaurus and incorporating them into a one button design. This spiky bracelet is a companion piece to the Stegosaurus spiked rope bracelet.

The color is a light tan with grey orange and yellow cords. The framing cords are off-white. The button is also made with the tan clay.

Size is a "small" 7" (178 mm) inside circumference.

The beads are made with two holes to enable a firm connection to the fabric. You can see these holes in the photo on the left.

The bracelet is constructed the same way as shown in this tutorial with the added beads.

Here's another design made with less aggressively shaped beads you might like.

or maybe this one would be interesting as well

2 button clothesline cuff with beads 1632

Here is another of the clothesline cuff collection made with soft braided cotton clothesline, hand dyed cord scraps, wood and glass beads, and a couple of plastic buttons. The clothesline is laid out to form the loops and ridges then the smaller cord is bound in between. A row of lavender glass beads forms a seam in the center. The wood and glass beads are then worked into the seams on the ridges.

The whole process takes some time to complete and depends on the availability of cord scraps and beads.

This cuff measures 7 3/8" (183 mm) inside circumference when closed and is 2 3/8" (63 mm) wide.

You can find this bracelet on Zibbet along with a larger collection of the design )strata( series of fiber art bracelets.

yellow, orange and gold cotton fiber Möbius bracelet 1400

This is another in an occasional series of experiments with creating fiber wrapped pieces. This one is made from braided cotton clothesline wrapped with cotton floss. The colors are bright canary yellow, gold, and bright tangerine orange. The clothesline is stitched together with nylon thread before wrapping to provide stability. It's three strands and they are constructed in a Möbius strip geometry out of a single piece of cord.
Size is extra large measuring 9 1/4" (234 mm) inside circumference.

desert sunset beaded 3 button cuff bracelet 1194

This project is another that has been sitting in my partially complete box waiting for a decision about the closure design. After messing around with several ideas I worked out a nice lie-flat three button solution.

The colors are bright southwest desert inspired oranges, pinks, yellow, red and purple. Embedded glass beads emulate the treasure hidden in the folds of the earth and visible only to the mind's eye and the careful observer...
The toggle closure system is three loops of cotton cord and buttons. The center loop passes through the red loop then secures on the center button. The two outer loops fit over the smaller buttons.

loop over button on the left...

a row of red glass beads is visible just below the buttons.

large size cotton anklet with beads 546

More in-progress photos showing the construction of the anklet. The needles hold the cord in alignment while the stitching is made across the grain.

Size is about the same as this earlier design modeled here by Kelly: http://bit.ly/6st4ht

On the loop end additional beads are stitched in the shoulders of the loop.

Here you can see the difference in width between the relaxed cords held by the needles and the compressed cords that have been cinched tight with the nylon thread.

Beads are placed at each crossing of the thread and held in place by the compressed cords.
