by the sea

Here's a view of the lower east passage of Naragansett Bay. In the distance is Rams Head part of Aquidneck Island where the famous resort and tourist town of Newport is located. The sailboats are tacking into a moderate southerly breeze. In the foreground are some of the product inventory that I'm trying to replace for the online shops.

In order: black, white, fuchsia pink, purple, and orange.

Here's some of the all cotton three part white cotton rope bracelets that are popular with beach goers and sailing crews.
Newport RI located just across the bay is home to many day charter operations that offer visitors a chance to sail on these very picturesque boats. The weather is warm and sunny, the wind is up and the sailing is great!

blue and green BASIC rope bracelets 2062

BASIC bracelets are the collection of simple five part turks head knot rope bracelets that you can actually adjust to make a custom fit right on your wrist. This special order design combines two colors of hand dyed cord in a single bracelet to create a cool blue-green mix of color.

The all cotton braided cord is soft and feels relaxed against your skin. The special dye mix has been treated to prevent color wash-out.
The size adjustment works the same way for single colors as it does for these multi-color variations. Read about how to adjust for your perfect fit here.

These bracelets are supplied in two sizes which will fit just about everyone: The "large" size comes in 8 1/2" (216 mm) and can be worked down to about a 7" size. The "medium" size comes in 6 1/2" (165 mm) and can work down to about 5" or so.

Find the entire collection of BASIC bracelets here and remember that you can order any of the colors in either large or medium sizes at no extra charge.

Modern nautical rope bracelet, how to adjust for your perfect fit - illustrated guide

This article describes how to "work up" the modern nautical rope bracelet from a large size to a smaller size for a custom fit.

1. Place the relaxed bracelet in place around your wrist. Rotate it around so you can see the center.

Info: The center is the location where three strands are parallel.

2. Use a chop stick or other smooth pointed instrument to pull a small loop from the center of the knot to the right. Take only a small amount of slack! The effects will multiply as you work around.

Caution: Avoid injury! Don't use sharp metal tools or anything with a knife edge.

3. Move to the next overlap and pull the loop through. Keep the knot oriented the same way. Rotate the knot downwards  as you work around.

4. Move to the outside overlap and pull the loop through. Each time you pull the slack through be sure to take just a wee bit of extra tension. This will gradually reduce the size of the knot as you work it around.

Caution: Don't over-tighten! Leave a finger thickness between your wrist and the inside of the bracelet.

5. Keep pulling the loop through the next overlap as you work your way around the knot. Keep going in one direction.

Info: You will have 5 circuits around the knot from the center to the loose end.

6. When you reach the loose end gently pull the accumulated slack through the last overlap. Congratulations you have done 1/2 the workup!

7. Now reverse the direction and pull a small loop to the left and down. Proceed as before taking the extra slack out. Go easy and don't take too much out!

8. When you have completed removing the slack you may snip off the loose ends.
Info: It's a good idea to leave a small stub of cord to prevent it from coming undone. You may also secure the ends by sewing them up.You may also want to turn the bracelet inside-out to hide the cut off ends
Caution: use care with scissors!

matched pair of white nylon turks head weave bracelets 422

A matched pair of soft and silky nylon turks head weave bracelets in bright white with loose ends so you can adjust them to your perfect fit. This is a fun activity to do with friends on an overnight or when camping or at the beach.

A great souvenir of a good time together.

Each bracelet comes with a set of three glass donut beads securing the loose ends. The ends can be tied off and trimmed if you want.

Some people like the challenge of working up these bracelets to a smaller diameter on their wrists. I supply illustrated instructions with all adjustable bracelets so it's pretty easy to do.

Hard to decide what to do...Keep both, keep one and send the other to a friend, or send them both to friends.

Nine part turks head knot rope bracelet with white and grey cable cord

The combination of natural white and grey cords creates a dramatic pattern in this nine part design.
The cable cord adds a texture which unifies the entire piece lending a marine "ropey" look to the bracelet.

The alternating light and dark pattern draws attention to the over-under weave. Each diamond shape crossover has three elements: The two white cords and the grey cord in the center.

The cord is a #60 four part cotton which is tightly twisted together.

Part 6: Working up the complete knot

<--part 5
6.1 The knot has been removed from the tube and most of the big loops have been worked out. This process is the same as illustrated below. Keep the cords parallel and even as you work.

6.2 As you work up the knot keep an even tension on the cord.

6.3 Here the slack loop is on the right set up to pull through to the left side. A starter loop has been made with the fid.

6.4 The slack loop has been pulled most of the way through the knot to the left.

6.5 The loop is pulled through to the left and a starter loop has been made on the right.

6.6 The slack loop has been pulled most of the way through the knot to the left.

6.7 Work the loop from side-to-side around the knot. Each time take a small amount of extra slack out to the weave. The pull through loop will gradually enlarge as you work it around.

6.8 Since this is a 5 part knot there will be 5 trips around the circumference for to reach the end.

Part 5: Working to the ends of the cord

<--part 4
5.1 Follow the original lead around the tube until you run out of slack.

5.2 When that happens, reverse the tube placing the slack loops on your right. Begin from the point you stopped and remove the slack by pulling the loops through one at a time until you reach the end.

5.3 Continue following the original single lead keeping parallel and on the same side of the cord. Keep working back and forth round the knot until the two leads are overlapping each other.
