Beading is a huge craft phenomenon with thousands if not millions of people all over the world creating unique craft objects. Knotting is another ancient art and it's relationship to beading is probably just as old. Combining these two traditions to create new forms is part of what makes the exploration of craft expressions so much fun. At left is a bracelet that combines both a Turks Head weave with glass beads to produce a simple high impact look. Black cord is worked in a 17 x 5 x 2 pattern with red glass pony beads. I love knots. Could you possibly leave instructions on how to do this turk head bracelet. It's beautiful.
The knot is a 17 bight x 5 part by 2 strand double diamond weave done in black 3 mm cord. The pattern for the knot can be found in the Ashley Book of Knots (ABOK) #1349 although this particular knot is not illustrated. This is a "narrow" turks head design.
The beads are placed in the weave during the second pass of the cord around the knot.
The whole thing is drawn up on a cylindrical mold to get the cord evenly tensioned and the beads properly aligned in the weave.
Finally the loose ends are stitched to prevent unraveling and trimmed off.
