another group of two strand random color rope bracelets 4005

Extra pieces of cord are produced frequently during the development of color sets. A batch of bracelets is made and a few ends remain often not large enough to make a full three strand design. These narrower two strand designs are the result…

Sizes are non-standard based on the length of the remainder cord. Ok you can ask for custom sizes but the color might be different.

child size rope bracelets 4009

Kids love a day at the shore and what could make them happier than having a traditional rope bracelet? These are small scale bracelets made from thinner cotton that are just the right size for smaller children. The smaller cord creates a tighter braid pattern with some natural flexibility.

Sizes are about 6" (153 mm) circumference and can be special ordered in alternate sizes if desired.

super soft collection 4001

Soft laid cotton cord takes the dye in a variegated range producing a rather pleasing color outcome. Some of the fibers acquire intense color, others less so producing slight color contrasts when the cord is made up into bracelets.

This collection shows a limited range of color including purple, pool-bottom blue, lighter teal blue, and a teal center stripe combination.

The "white" is actually a near white or ecru color which shifts the color slightly grey.

dip dyed extra wide cuff 3535

An explosion of color comes to life with this extra wide cuff. The knot design is a long turks head made with 21 parts and 10 bights on a mold. The double pass (2 strand) creates the requested 3" width.

The colors were dip-dyed in a progressive process starting with the darker turquoise blue, the the lime green and ending with celosia orange.
In this view you can see the elongated proportions. The size requested was only 7 1/2" so the weave is open and flexible to allow this cuff to settle comfortably on the forearm.

Each color required time to dry followed by treatment with a mordant to reduce the color bleeding

white and navy rope bracelet 3383

Classic nautical colors of bright white and navy blue made into a small rope bracelet. The material is 325 paracord which is a smaller diameter lighter weight material than the more common 550 variety. This smaller size makes this the perfect choice for people with smaller hands.
Paracord is made from a fiber core covered with a woven sheath which provides a consistent smooth and colorful stock of material. The popular "survival bracelets" are made from this material. Available  in a huge range of colors paracord is easy to work with making these bracelets.

These knotted bracelets have no clips or other hardware, just a continuous weave pattern. Can you spot the ends?
Size of this bracelet is 6 1/4" (158 mm) inside circumference. The paracord will tend to shrink when it gets wet so this one would be just right for a teen or small adult wrist.

ombre dip dyed cord made into a turks head knot rope bracelet 3212

The interesting thing about this design is the cord which was loosely coiled then dip dyed in a blue dye bath then the cord was dip dyed in a grey dye bath and allowed to dry. The overlapping color creates the transition.

The cord was then used to construct a traditional three part sailor bracelet. The areas where the cord was fully immersed in the blue are laid up right next to the grey areas giving this classic design a lively variegated color effect
The cord is a #48 cotton which is a relaxed or loosely laid up product of my local hardware store. It has a light grey toned color right out of the ball so the blue dye comes out a bit more pastel in tone while the grey just looks completely natural.
Built as a sample this is a "small" size (14 part) but the cord can stretch making this a great all purpose bracelet.

nylon hybrid weave turks head knot bracelet 2760

Two weave patterns are combined in this interesting knot bracelet: Each edge has a herringbone (over 2-under 2) pattern which then shifts to a plain weave in the center.

This design is a "square" turks head with 14 bights and 15 parts.

Here is a related wider design.

The material is a 1/8" high density braided nylon cord which is a nice bright white color. This material is easy to work in the knot and unlike cotton tends to hold it's size without shrinking.

size relaxed:
7" (178 mm) inside circumference
2 1/4" (55 mm) inside diameter
2 3/4" (96 mm) wide

will stretch slightly to about 7 1/2"
The weave pattern is:
U2-O2-u1-o1-u1-o1-u1-o1-U2-O2 which has been doubled to bulk up the size.

stitch up tutorial part 3

Place a double overhand knot in the thread and cinch it up tight. This secures the cords so they don't come undone later.

Trim off the excess thread using a heavy shear or wire cutter. Leave a 1/16" tail on the knot.

When you are finished the cords should be tightly bound together by the thread.
Trim off the cords using a wire cutter or scissor. Trim as close the weave as possible without damaging the other cords.

Here you can see the trimmed cord ends. The stitching is on the inside of the bracelet hidden from view. The cord ends will fray slightly causing them to be less noticeable.

After trimming the cords you may re-shape the bracelet by placing it over a bottle or other cylindrical object and evening the alignment of the cords.
Here's the finished product after having been shaped and stretched.

stitch up tutorial part 2

Make another pass with the needle and thread across the cords as shown. Space the stitching out so the cross threads cover the whole area of the parallel cords.
Now there are three passes of thread securing the cords in place. Draw the thread through the cords and pull firmly to bind the cords together.
Reverse the needle and place a fourth pass diagonally through the cords so the needle emerges near the origin point.

Pull firmly to tighten the thread.
This shows the stitching complete with the two pieces of thread drawn through the cords ready to tie off.
