red white and blue 1399

It's coming up on that time of year again when we all get to celebrate this experiment with democracy that began with a bunch of guys (yeah old white men...deal with it) who got together to try and figure out how to have a country organized by laws instead of fallible human beings. A radical concept that we are still trying to figure out how to operate. Yeah we got liars, cheaters, malcontents, criminals, good people, entrepreneurs, yeoman farmers, businessmen, students, stay-at-home moms, solid citizens, and everyone else too.
Happy fourth of July! Eat a brat, buy a patriotic bracelet, visit my shop.

dark blue-green turks head knot bracelet 1168

Dark blue-green hand dyed cord is used to make this turks head knot rope bracelet:
The 100% cotton cord is sourced from Darice a supplier of craft materials. The color is a custom blend of RIT dye cooked on the stovetop. The weave design is a double diamond pattern which creates a naturally symmetrical shape during the process of working up the knot to it's competed shape. Find this and other patterns in the Ashley Book of Knots.

Find this bracelet and other hand dyed solid color rope bracelets in the solid colors section of my Zibbet shop.

grey extra wide turks head knot bracelet 1169

Blue-grey hand dyed cord is used to make this handsome extra wide cuff. The 100% cotton cord absorbs the dye from the outside-in. Working the cord through the knot untwists the cable cord slightly which exposes the lighter inner color. This gives the bracelet an attractive variegated color.
This design is a 22 x 9 x 2 double diamond weave pattern. Size is 7 5/8" (194 mm) inside circumference or a "medium" slip-on size.
This bracelet is part of a consignment that is headed out to Portland Oregon. If you are in the Portland area stop by Emily Baker's tiny design studio Sword+Fern located at 18 E Burnside in Portland. To keep up with what's happening follow emily's blog  where she posts delightful numinous object for all.

Seaside Dreams collection now musing on Etsy

West Lafayette Indiana is nowhere close to a salt water seaside but Ashley doesn't let that stop her from creating this Seaside Dreams collection. Visit her shop The Sunshine Girl to see a small but fun collection of crochet and a hollow book (stash for ??) Her treasury collection is cleverly arranged with white, yellow, turquoise, and green groupings vertically and necklace, handbags, bracelets, and earrings horizontally. (should we expect randomness from an engineering student?)

My picks are from the bracelet row. The Sunshine Yellow. Cloud Cuckoo Bracelet with Faceted Clam Shell, Glass bead, Lucite Flower and Czech Glass leaf title is almost as long as the bracelet its self. Made by CloudCuckooLand from Hong Kong. See more of Kiki's fine work in her shop of the same name.

Fiona - Single Wrap Adventurine on Leather offered by MadRiverDesigns is one of a series of wrap style bracelets in a multitude of colors inspired by the landscapes and rivers of Vermont.

The featured item in this collection is green and blue turks head knot sailor bracelet made with two shades of blue and green cord. This design is limited availability as the subtle green color is difficult to replicate perfectly. See more mixed color rope bracelets in the blended colors section of my Etsy shop.

teal blue plain weave turks head knot rope bracelet 1170

A wider cuff bracelet design made with a hand dyed cotton cable cord. The interesting highlights in the teal color are a result of the creation process. The outside of the cord absorbs more color from the dye bath than portions near the center. As the cord is drawn through the overlaps some twisting occurs exposing the lighter center materials thus creating the textured appearance.

white nylon cuff bracelet 441

White 1/8" nylon braided cord is used to build these super wide cuffs. The weave pattern is a 13 x 19 x 2 double diamond. The nylon does not shrink like cotton but does absorb some water so it take a set after a few months of wear. This example is 7 1/2" (191 mm) inside circumference and 2 1/4" (59 mm) wide.

Glow-in-the-dark turks head knot rope bracelet 288

A while back I had a request from someone who wanted a real glow-in-the-dark bracelet. I ordered some extra cord which as you can see from the photos will hold a nice greenish color when the lights go out.

The glow cord is combined with a blue nylon braided cord to make a smaller size (7 3/8" or 187 mm) circumference bracelet. This one is worked up to a very firm condition so no stretch!

copper green turks head rope bracelet 827

Copper green color hand dyed on a soft laid #72 cotton cord gives this a somewhat muted finished color. The cord spent only a few minutes in a diluted dye bath before getting rinsed and dried.

The material comes off the ball in a color that has not been heavily bleached. This light grey blends well with the blues and greens to achieve these subtle finished colors.

Weave design is 17 x 5 x 3
Finished size is adult "medium"

turquoise and sky rope bracelet 843

Blue and green together are an almost irresistible combination of colors. Maybe it's the affinity we feel with the warm oceans.

Here's a combination of turquoise and medium blue that reminds me of summer.

End stitching the cords is something that holds the bracelet together and prevents unraveling. This end stitching is standard on all non adjustable bracelets sold in the online venues.

See the little white thread tails? That's the end stitching. It's done with 4 ply waxed nylon thread. Look for the end stitching tail on rope bracelets made by WhatKnotShop

custom work for kids 816

Every now and then I receive a request for a custom piece for a younger person. I like making these for kids as it continues the tradition of having something cool and special that is yours alone.

This is a special request for someone who was passionate about purple but needed a smaller size than was offered in the online shop.

I had a bit of the purple cord remaining from the original dye batch which was long enough to make this 12 x 5 x 3 double diamond design.

So don't be shy about asking for a child sized version of work that is listed in the online shops. Most of the pieces offered can be made in smaller sizes that will fit younger kids as well as tweens.

Measure according to this guide then visit any one of these online shops to look over the selections, and contact me if you would like a special order made to fit a special child.

natural look soft mixed fiber knot bracelet 812

Natural cotton mixed fiber material for knot bracelets makes a relaxed finish to the fibers and lends a more "worn" look to the finished piece. This example is made from a soft laid #48 cord. The design is a 22x5x3 weave pattern.

The size is 8" inside circumference which fits many size hands. The bracelet will stretch slightly. Shrinkage is likely to be less than a 100% cotton material.

Find it on Etsy click here

nylon turks head knot sailor bracelet 698

Wide bracelet made from 2 mm white nylon cord. The cord has no stretch as it is originally intended as kite string. I found a 1000 ft spool of it in a shop located in the Chinatown section of San Francisco. Always leave room in your bag for things you find when away from home.

Weave design is 19 x 13 x 2. The size is 8 5/8" (219 mm) inside circumference and this piece can be worked up to a smaller size. The nylon material is easily drawn through the weave to take out slack.

red white blue turks head knot sailor bracelet 735

Red White and Blue - colors of patriotism for the USA and 27 other countries around the world. Can you name a few? (Click here for a hint!)

Well France and England are obvious as is Australia. How about Iceland or Thailand or Russia?

Yep. All of these places use the same color scheme in their national flags. It's a classic and works well for this custom made bracelet too.
